Rachel Schopler

Rachel is a junior majoring in Media/Communication Studies and Marketing and minoring in Hispanic Marketing Communications and Film Studies. She is also pursuing a Certificate in Leadership Studies. Rachel entered her freshman year as an Exploratory major and was unsure of her intended career path until she came to an FPRA meeting at the end of the year. “I had no clue what I wanted to do in terms of a career path. It’s very daunting to pick what you want to do for the rest of your life at the age of 18! It wasn’t until I went to an FPRA meeting with a friend that I was really exposed to the world of PR. I instantly fell in love and now there’s no looking back!”

Rachel has since then taken on the ambitious task of double majoring and essentially triple minoring while still gaining valuable PR experience outside of the classroom. Rachel is a Brand Manager for Chegg.com, an online textbook rental company, as well as Public Relations Officer of the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association, an on campus organization that operates a completely student run record label called Renegade State Records. Thanks to FPRA, she is also an intern at BevShots, an online business based out of Tallahassee. “FPRA has given me so much—a mentor, an internship, friends, networking opportunities, memories, and so much more. In the future, I hope to help FPRA advance even more within the Tallahassee community and beyond.”

Currently, Rachel is actively seeking a paid internship for the spring semester. Once she graduates, she hopes to work for an agency. Her dream job is to work for an agency with clients in the film industry.

Kristin Clark

Kristin is currently a senior pursuing her major in Media/Communication Studies with a minor in English. She has had a passion for public relations since she stepped foot on the Florida State campus in 2007 as a freshman.

“I joined FPRA my first year at FSU in order to meet other students with similar goals and interests and also to learn more about the industry. It has become a valuable resource and outlet for meeting some amazing people over the past few years.”

This past summer Kristin interned with two PR firms in New York City specializing in fashion and beauty. After ending her summer semester in Manhattan she was invited to return and work the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Shows at Lincoln Center. She also worked as a Junior Account Coordinator with The Zimmerman Agency, was a PR Consultant for Sunberry FYC, and is the Social Media Correspondent for Planet Beach Contempo Spa in Tallahassee. She is actively seeking another internship for her final spring semester at Florida State and is looking forward to returning to NYC in February 2011 to work fashion week once again.

“The opportunities I have been given thus far in my career have been so rewarding and beyond anything I ever imagined I would be able to do. Not only have they granted me with unforgettable experiences, but I have also learned valuable lessons that I will be able to apply in future endeavors. I strongly encourage younger students who are pursuing their own careers in the communication industry – don’t be afraid to network and build a name for yourself. YOU are the most important brand you will ever promote, be sure to take the time and effort to show others who you are.”

After graduation Kristin is looking forward to making her mark on the PR industry and would love to work with an agency that specializes in lifestyle PR.

Jarryd Boyd

Jarryd Boyd is a freshman applying to the Public Relations program this spring. In high school, he developed a love for the Public Relations field while working with non-profit organizations such as Junior Civitan International and Junior Achievement and interacting with members of the local community. Junior Civitan had a particular impact on Jarryd as he represented the organization every day, got to know the membership basis, presented on different projects and events, and made great friends in the process.

“Whatever realm of Public Relations I work in whether it is an agency, a business, political or non-profit, I hope to bring one thing to it and that is passion. We have to have passion for what we pursue in life; to be in the PR field, we have an amazing opportunity to connect with and get to know people. Also we present and spread the concept of a person or organization and I love all aspects of the above mentioned,” Jarryd said.

Jarryd has enjoyed the FPRA meetings so far and wants to work on personal branding, getting to know many PR professionals and having fun with fellow students. Jarryd is from Pensacola, FL and enjoys mystery books and cooking.

Brandi Fritsch

Brandi Fritsch is a junior in the Public Relations Program with a minor in business, as well as a current candidate in pursuit of a leadership certificate. This is her second year interning as a brand representative for Victoria’s Secret PINK, an extremely successful initiative on the campus of Florida State University. Last year, Brandi and her team were recognized as the winner of the Victoria’s Secret Campus Rep Hope Initiative Video Project. Brandi also interned with Sunberry Frozen Yogurt Company last year, serving as a member of their PR team. This semester, she went on to co-lead the Sunberry team with the help of her partner, Jenna Kesneck. Brandi is also a very active member of her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and currently serves on the Executive Board.

Brandi is always willing to step up and take initiative on projects, and manages everything on her plate while still managing to find time for herself and her friends. Congratulations on all of your hard work, Brandi–we can’t wait to see what else the future has in store for you!

Katie Conrad

Katie is a senior majoring in Public Relations and minoring in business. She has shadowed and interned with local firms and businesses including VisitFlorida and BevShots.

Over the summer Katie was the Development Intern with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida. She worked alongside the Special Events Director and helped with the logistics of fundraising events. While here, she wrote several “wish stories” featuring children and their recent wishes. One of her stories was featured on the Make-A-Wish’s homepage!

“This was one of the most rewarding experiences. It made my job easier knowing the cause I worked for. Seeing each child’s excitement during their wish made the long hours worthwhile,” Katie said.

As for the next chapter in her life, Katie wants to move to New York City. Here she would love to work with a PR Firm, specifically with special events.

“I love putting on a performance and I view events in a similar way. You prepare, plan and practice for weeks until it all comes down to the event. It’s exciting!”

Katie has been a member of FPRA for the past 3 years. FPRA taught Katie many principles which she used for her internships. She is excited about the opportunities this year will bring.

Kati Hyer

Kati Hyer is a junior recently accepted into the PR program. She is a double major in Public Relations and International Affairs. One day Kati hopes to serve in a non-profit setting where she can be an advocate for the social issues she is the most passionate about: hunger, homelessness and the environment, specifically as it relates to food consumption.

In the past, Kati has penned articles as a contributing writer for the FSView, served as a communications associate in the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Press Office and interned with Kidd Group. This past summer, Kati served as the account manager for TasteBudz Catering; one of Moore Consulting Group’s 10 in 2010: Rebranding Academy community service clients. In addition to managing media relations, rebranding TasteBudz via social media and acting as their general communications liaison, she enjoyed planning events like cooking classes and demonstrations around the community, while loving every bit of it!

She also enjoys reading. Two recent indulgences include We The Media and Here Comes Everybody. “Both of these books offer fantastic commentary on the way the convergence of technology and society changes everything; respectively, the way grassroots journalism undermines Big Media and and the way humans, armed with technology-driven social interaction, form meaningful groups and exist within them,” says Kati.

Congratulations on becoming our first featured member of the 2010-2011 school year, Kati! All of your hard work certainly deserves it!

Christina Morgan

Christina is a junior public relations major who was just elected as the FPRA Student Chapter President 2010-2011! She did an amazing job serving as the 2009-2010 Social Historian Assistant and will continue her hard work in her new position.

Christina is currently the co-director of the Sunberry FYC PR Consulting team and serves as a primary contact to the client. She has also interned for Zimmerman Agency and worked as a freelance writer for an upcoming media distribution company, Revolution IPTV.

One day Christina would like to manage her own firm. She likes variety and being kept on her toes.

“Over the past two years, FPRA has taught me essential communications skills that I would have never learned in the classroom. From networking through Student and Capital Chapter meetings to leadership through mentor-ing, being a mentee and internships, the experiences and opportunities that have been presented to me through this club are irreplaceable and I couldn’t be any more grateful for them!”

Natalie Unger

Natalie is a junior public relations major who has really made her mark on the Tallahassee community and FSU campus.

Natalie was the account coordinator at the Mayfield Group in Tallahassee. Currently, she is Assistant Director of Internal Affair and Public Relations for the FSU World Affairs program. Along with these positions she is also one of the lead PR consultants for Sunberry.

Natalie has learned to embrace social media and its new developments through her classes, internship and involvement in FPRA. She serves on the FPRA social committee and is known for always having great ideas. One day Natalie would love to become a press secretary.

Jamal Myrick

Congratulations to Jamal Myrick, our Featured Member of the week!

Jamal is junior, international affairs major who has developed an interest in the field of public relations. He is new to the FPRA club this semester, and he is excited to get involved. The executive board along with other members of the club immediately noticed his desire and eagerness to become active in FPRA events and learn all he can about a prospective future career in PR.

Jamal prides himself as being a social person who values honesty and forwardness within every interaction. He immediately recognized the potential he has for the PR field after enrolling in Dr. Rayburn’s Intro to Public Relations course at FSU. Jamal hopes his experience in international affairs and a multicultural approach will give him an edge and be a beneficial contribution to his future career.

One day Jamal aspires to work with a diverse group of clients as he owns his own international full-service firm. Currently, Jamal is seeking out all the experience to make his dream a reality. He has already interned with the Department of Small Business Services in NYC, the Zimmerman Agency in Tallahassee and served as Press and Publicity chair for Progressive Black Men Inc. Jamal claims “The proof of desire is in the pursuit.” Jamal is already proving his desire to us, and is well on his ways to being a success.
